We believe we have the most incredible lineup of vendors participating at the 2013 Expo. In fact, we’re so proud of them, we want everyone to know more about who they are and how their business fits in to the Expo’s passion for seeing Ottawa the healthiest city in Canada. We recently sent our vendors a list of four questions. Between now and the Expo, we will be highlighting some of these amazing vendors. Watch our blog every Tuesday & Saturday morning for another vendor spotlight.
This time, we focus on Journey of the Yogini and owner Megan Campbell.
Who are you?
My name is Megan Campbell and I am the founder of Journey of the Yogini. I have been teaching Yoga classes and workshops in Ottawa and surrounding areas for the past seven years. I am the Host of TV’s ‘Yoga for Women‘ which airs daily on Rogers TV Ottawa, a show that focuses on sequences of postures that help women through each stage and phase of life.
I am passionate about helping women in their health and wellness goals, and am a devoted philanthropist, working towards empowering women and girls worldwide.
I love Yoga, not just as a practice, but it’s my life. It has offered my such amazing ways to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary, and feel blessed to have found my calling early on in my life.
Outside of Yoga I love to read, cuddle my doggie daughter, Lola, and watch movies.
How long have you been in business?
I have been teaching for seven years and started offering the Yoga workshops for women about five or six years ago. They were very popular and I used the community that the Yoga workshops built as a plateform to raise funds for local women’s shelters, donating proceeds from each one in support of our ‘sister’ who don’t have the priviledge to do the work that we do.
I transformed the workshops into a business only a year and a half ago by starting to offer Yoga retreats and events exclsuively for women. We started with our annual Yogini Yogathon, and now offer four stable initiatives that help raise awareness and funds for charities that empower women and girls both locally and globally.
In a year and a half we have raised over $120,000 through the power of Yoga and community and ignited a movement around concious activism here in Ottawa.
What is your business all about?
Journey of the Yogini is a soul-based business. Everything we do is guided by my beliefs and ethics, as well as an understanding that in order to help others effectively we must first heal ourselves.
All of our initiatives are ethically priced so that it is affordable for all. We also believe in community and collaboration, and rely on them to continue to offer what we do as effectively as we do.
We are the only philanthropy based business in Canada that supports women through Yoga, and in turn empowers other women to be able to empower themselves on a national and global level.
Our intention is to create community, empower ourselves and others, and to do this through the incredible practice of Yoga.
Our vision is a strong like-minded community of women working together, collaborating to empower, heal, and transform, not only our own lives, but the lives of women who need it throughout the world.
We won the 2012 Silver as Best New Business of the Year from Ottawa Business Acheivement Awards, and have been featured in blogs, local magazines, and on CTV, including being named an ‘Amazing Person.’
The Expo focuses on four themes: be fit, eat right, think well, go green. Which of these does your business incorporate?
Journey of the Yogini fits into be fit, eat right, and think well. We strive to offer a holistic way to empower, heal, and transform our own Selves, so that we can better serve others, whether it’s our families, careers, or the world.
Our biggest celebration is how much we have raised by igniting our community in such a short time. Over $120,000 towards organizations like CARE Canada, Because I am a Girl, Interval and Harmony House, Off the Mat, Into the World, as well as many others.
We have done this through Yoga related initiatives like our Be the Change: 30 day body, mind, and soul challenge, Yogini Yogathon, online webinars ~ The Yogini Dialogues, Karma Yoga classes, Girls Night In Movie nights, Yoga, Action, Adventure trips.
