We believe we have the most incredible lineup of vendors participating at the 2013 Expo. In fact, we’re so proud of them, we want everyone to know more about who they are and how their business fits in to the Expo’s passion for seeing Ottawa the healthiest city in Canada. We recently sent our vendors a list of four questions. Between now and the Expo, we will be highlighting some of these amazing vendors. Watch our blog every Tuesday & Saturday morning for another vendor spotlight.
About me
I am married and a mother of three aged 23, 18 & 16. I am the youngest of 6 children and our mother raised us on her own from the time I was 5 and my oldest brother was 13. She was a creative and frugal lady – she had to be – who never saw the extent of her own talents. I learned a lot about healthy living from my Mom who eliminted colours and additives from our diet in the mid to late 1970’s when she discovered two of my brother were hyperactive (the pre-cursor to ADD and ADHD). I am also an active volunteer with Citizen Advocacy and their Lifetime Networks Program for adults with developmental disabilities – or should I say alternative abilities. I sit on the Board of Directors and Chair the Lifetime Networks Advisory Committee. Much of my work with this program is around fundraising to ensure our programs continue for the life of our members.
How long have we been in Business
Our first sales event was organized just to see what would happen. August 2006, Perth Garlic Festival. We were blown away. As people contacted us following this event looking to purchase more, we started to view ourselves as a business rather than a hobby.
What is your business all about
In the beginning our mission was just about ‘no sugar, no sugar substitutes.’ When, as a result of questions from customers, we realized our products are gluten free and as we learned more about gluten we decided to ensure that all our products are, and will continue to be, gluten free. As important to all of that is flavours, perhaps even more important because no matter how healthy a thing is, if it doesn’t taste great nobody wants to eat. We try to be original in the flavours we create and make products that you can feel good about eating every day.
The Expo four themes: be fit, eat right, think well, go green.
Our company fits into the Eat Right theme.
